He studied in the Kuibyshev State Medical Institute (1954-1960). From 1963 until 1965 A. Strizhakov was a clinical resident of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Research Institute of the USSR Ministry of Health (Moscow). In the same institute Alexander Nikolaevich was studying in graduate school.
After the graduation from the Kuibyshev State Medical Institute (1954-1960), until 1963 Alexander Strizhakov worked as a doctor of the maternity hospital in Chapaevsk. From 1963 until 1965 A. Strizhakov was a clinical resident of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Research Institute of the USSR Ministry of Health (Moscow). After graduation from Obstetrics and Gynecology Research Institute of the USSR Ministry of Health (1967), he worked as a junior research fellow of the Operative Gynecology Department at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Research Institute of the USSR Ministry of Health (until 1970). Further professional activity of А.N. Strizhakov is associated with the 1st Moscow Medical Institute named after I.M. Sechenov, where he consistently occupied the positions of assistant (1970-1975), assistant professor (1975-1979), then professor (1979-1981) of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the 1st Faculty of Medicine. Since 1981 A.N. Strizhakov has been the Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of №2 of the Medical Faculty in the Moscow Medical Academy named after I.M. Sechenov. A.N. Strizhakov is one of the founders of perinatal fetal care organization in Russia.
A.N. Strizhakov made a great contribution in the problem of surgical treatment of genital endometriosis, hyperplastic endometrial processes, uterine tumors with laparoscopy and hysteroresectoscopy. A.N. Strizhakov was the first in Russia who introduced the technique of vaginal extirpation of the uterus in tumors without disturbing the anatomy of the pelvic floor.
Under the guidance and advice of A.N. Strizhakova more than 100 doctoral and candidate dissertations have been prepared. Many of his students are doctors of medical sciences, professors, heads of departments of obstetrics and gynecology in Russia and CIS countries.
