In 1946 Nikolay Nikolaevich Bajanov entered the Moscow Medical Stomatological Institute named after N.A. Semashko, which he graduated from in 1950. After graduation he continued studying in the clinical residency of the Department of General Surgery of the Moscow Medical Stomatological Institute.
Nikolay Nikolaevich is a participant of the Great Patriotic War. Medical, scientific and pedagogical work of Nikolay Nikolaevich was connected with the 1st Moscow Medical Institute named after I.M. Sechenov, where he started working since 1953, firstly holding the post of a senior laboratory assistant, then assistant and associate professor of dentistry courses.
In 1956 Nikolay Nikolaevich defended his Candidate's Thesis "To the issue of preparing patients for emergency surgical and stomatological operations". In 1965 defended his Doctorate Thesis "To the issue of anaesthesis in a clinic of therapeutic stomatology", in which he generalized results of his longitudinal research, including those on premedication, which is the most important dentistry problem.
Since 1965 he has been the head of the Dentistry Department of the Moscow Medical Academy named after I.M. Sechenov. The same year Nikolay Nikolaevich was elected as the dean of the 1st Medical Faculty of the 1st Moscow Medical Institution named after I.M. Sechenov. Nikolay Nikolaevich had held this post until 1984.
Nikolay Nikolaevich is the author of more than 300 scientific works, 3 monographs and 2 in co-sponsorship. He is a chief editor of a series of academic works collections, has 19 copyright certificates.
Bajanov's scientific school was created in the mid-1960s. Nikolay Nikolaevich was the first to raise the most urgent issues of gerontology at the national level and conduct a series of research in this field.
The authority of Nikolay Nikolaevich Bajanov as a scientist, educator and public character was confirmed by his election as a People`s Deputy in 1989.
Nikolay Nikolaevich Bajanov is a member of the editorial board of "Stomatology" magazine. For more than 15 years he was a chairman of the Bureau of the Moscow Stomatological Society and for 5 years a chairman of the Scientific Stomatological Society of the USSR.
In 1990 Nikolay Nikolaevich was elected as a member of the International Academy of Dentists. Bajanov is an honorary member of Bulgarian and German scientific stomatological societies, a member the council of the Russian Stomatological Association.
In 1982 was elected as a corresponding member of AMS of the USSR, in 1993 elected as a RAMS academician, in 1996 - as an academician of the Russian Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences.
