Glinka-Ismailov began his acting career in the Moscow Artistic Club in 1882. He acted in many Russian cities. Among his best parts are: Ruslan ("Ruslan and Lyudmila" by Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka), Gudal ("Demon" by Anton Grigorievich Rubinstein) and others. Alexander performed an extensive chamber repertoire, including works by Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka. He organized concerts, dedicated to Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka. Moreover, he organized music schools named after M. Glinka in Moscow, Smolensk, Roslavl and Vladimir. He was a teacher at the Moscow Conservatory and at Voronezh Musical College (1937-1939). Alexander Glinka-Ismailov was the author of music and lyrics of a number of romances, including "Come to me", "How can I forget you".
