Alexander Zakharovich studied one year at the 3rd Saint Petersburg Gymnasium, then was assigned to the Saint Petersburg commercial school. In 1860 he left the school for art. He played in dramatic productions.
Alexander Zakharovich performed for the first time as a playwright in 1869 in the farce Kursk don Juan, or Husband and wife crave love (Kursk). He wrote more than 50 comedies, farces, and vaudevilles. Among the comedies he wrote were: A Fork without a knife or Our lawyers in a quandary (1880), The Snake, or the family house went upside down (1883), The Mother-in-law of an alcoholic (1902), The Jolly doctor from the Slaughterhouse (1905). Moreover, he was the author of Everyday echoes - a collection of pop and operetta verses containing responses to burning topics. Alexander Zakharovich wrote about a certain decline of the provincial theater, the reason for which he saw advantages in the commercial direction of the theater business at the end of the 19th century.
