Alexey Levinskiy was born 28 July 1947 in Moscow in a family of actors.
Passion for art, for theatrical performances appeared during Aleksey’s school years - he staged the novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe. In 1969 he graduated from the Moscow Art Theatre School (acting Department, course of V. Markov). The first production of Levinsky is the graduation play of "Bourgeois Wedding" by Bertolt Brecht (1968).
From 1969 to 1987 was an actor of the Moscow Theater of Satire. From 1971 to 1975 he studied biomechanics under the control of the actor N. Kustov. Also Alexei conducted experimental work with a group of actors from different Moscow theatres. In the late 1970-ies in a semi-professional Student Theatre at the old building of Moscow State University (Mokhovaya street) staged the play "Hamlet" by Shakespeare with the help of students and invited professional artists. Alexey also did the main part himself.
From 1978 Alexei Alexandrovich has been the founder and art director of the studio "Theatre". In 1979 he finished higher directing courses at GITIS Academy. From 1987 he has been the director of the Moscow Theater named after M. Yermolova.
In 1989 Levinsky played Cincinnatus in the performance "The Invitation to Execution" by Valery Fokin, based on Vladimir Nabokov.
In the 1990-ies Levinsky teaches biomechanics in Austria, the UK and the USA. In 2001 he was a member of the jury of the national theatre award Golden Mask.
