Alexey Ivanovich graduated from the Medical Faculty of Moscow University (1908).
Since 1910 as a staff resident of the Moscow University Eye Clinic. In 1911, Alexey Ivanovich Pokrovsky was elected assistant to the Moscow Higher Women's Courses Eye Clinic and at the same time a laboratory assistant to the Alexeyevsky Eye Hospital.
In 1914. A.I. Pokrovsky was mobilized in the army to work in the infirmary in the fortress of Kushka, and from 1915 he worked as a senior resident of the military hospital in Fergana. In 1923 Alexey Pokrovsky was elected assistant to the eye clinic of the Voronezh State University, and in 1926 was approved as a private assistant professor of the same clinic.
Author of more than 90 scientific papers, including 4 books: "Trachoma" (Voronezh, 1932) and others devoted to the study of pathological anatomy, pathogenesis, clinic and epidemiology of trachoma, the spread of eye diseases, clinic and issues of surgical treatment of eye socket tumors, glaucoma treatment and various eye diseases. Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR from the Voronezh region (1951-1955).
