Dean, Amos was born on January 16, 1803 in Barnard, Vermont, United States. Son of Nathaniel and Rhoda (Hammond) Dean.

Graduate Union College, Schenectady, New York, 1826.

Career

Admitted to New York bar, 1829. Became partner (with Azor Taber) in law firm, 1833. Professor medical jurisprudence Albany (New York), Medical College, 1838-1858.

Procured establishment of law department U. Albany, 1851. Retired from active practice, 1854. Chancellor, professor of history U. Iowa, Iowa City, 1855-1860.

Author: Lectures on Phrenology, 1834. Principles of Medical Jurisprudence, a Course of Lectures, 1850.
