Background
Ando Nukari was born in Iwashiro Province (Fukushima Prefecture) in the poor family of a petty silver mine official in Handa, he was called Kenji and later Tone.

Career
Coming up to Yedo, he studied Japanese classics at a private school operated by Chuho Hanawa. A man of eccentric habits, he defied all waka poetry schools in his time and developed ms own style. He wandered far and wide in the country in his ]ate years. He left Nukarishii, a collection of odes.
