He served Tokiyori Hojo and his son, Tokimune (Prime ministers of the Kamakura Shogunate), from 1250 until 1280. Distinguished himself by fairly settling a dispute which arose in the Royal Family about a feudal territorial boundary.
A famous anecdote told of him is that he spent much money on regaining only a few pennies which had been accidentally dropped into the Namerikawa River. Some historians suspect that he was only a legendary and fictitious personage.
