Akamatsu Norimura was born in 1287 in Harima (Hyogo Prefecture). He was a descendant of Sadafusa Mura-IcamiGenji, his pseudonym was Nyudo Enshin.
He came into prominence during the Genko-no-rwn in 1331 when he organised an army of loyalists and attacked Rokuhara one of the bastions of the Kamakura Shogunate. As reward for this he was appointed Governor of Harima by the Imperial Court. Later, however, he was deprived of this post for no reason and he joined the army of Takau.ii Ashikaga to register his protest. When Takauji's army was routed he advised him to make his peace with Emperor Kogon while holding the pass at Shirohata Castle. Norimura was a patron of Sesson Yūbai who established Hōun-ji and Hōrin-ji in Harima.[4] In records about the establishment of land rights for Daitoku-ji in Kyoto, Norimura's help is recognized.
