Benjamin Attas was born on December 12, 1921 in Manhattan, New York, United States.
Benjamin Attas studied his craft at the Clarence White School, the American Artists School and the New York Institute of Photography, all from 1941 to 1942.
From 1955 to 1957, Benjamin Attas ran a commercial and portrait studio. Since 1957, he has worked as assistant manager and technical consultant for Modernage Photographic Services in Manhattan and has been an instructor for both, formerly, the New School for Social Research in New York, and, presently, Rockland Community College, Rockland County, New York. Attas has written several training booklets and has functioned as consultant for several books on photography and its history.
