Brian Caswell is an Australian British-born educator and author of young adult fiction. He holds the position of the Dean of Research and Program Development at MindChamps Learning Centre.
Background
Brian Caswell was born on January 13, 1954, in a village called Gwernaffield in Wales. He is the son of George Harry and Jean (Hignett; present surname, McGrath) Caswell. His family moved to England when he was 5 years old. Seven years later, Caswell's family moved to Australia.
Education
Caswell received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Diploma of Education from the University of New South Wales in 1975 and 1976, respectively.
In the 1970s, Caswell took up singing and songwriting, and was successful for some years, one of his songs making the top 40 music charts and another winning a 'Golden Guitar' for song of the year. He became a school teacher at the New South Wales Department of Education in 1976, giving up performing, but continued writing songs. In 1991 he resigned from that position to become a full-time writer and since then works as a writer and holds the position of the Dean of Research and Program Development at MindChamps Learning Centre.
During his long career, Caswell also was a lector and Eucharistic minister for the local church as well as a coach for Royals Basketball Club (youth club).
Caswell is a member of the New South Wales Teachers Federation, University of New South Wales Alumni Association, Australian Society of Authors and Australasian Performing Right Association.
