(The 36th Division was formed in 1917, just after the Unit...)
The 36th Division was formed in 1917, just after the United States entered World War I. The division's documented ancestors in the Texas National Guard, the Texas Volunteer Guard, and the Texas militia trace back to the 1870s. The tradition in which the 36th played so great a part even predates the 1836 defense of the Alamo. This history explores the division's origins and also goes over there with the 36th for combat in World War I, chronicles the division in state National Guard service between the world wars, and witnesses its federalization in 1940, followed by combat training in 1940-1942 and combat action in Italy and France during the Second World War.

(Two of the great themes of the Civil War are how Lincoln ...)
Two of the great themes of the Civil War are how Lincoln found his war-winning general in Ulysses Grant and how Grant finally defeated Lee. Grant's Victory intertwines these two threads in a grand narrative that shows how Grant made a difference in the war. At Eastern theater battlefields from Bull Run to Gettysburg, Union commanders - whom Lincoln replaced after virtually every major battle - had struggled to best Lee, either suffering embarrassing defeat or failing to follow up success. Meanwhile, in the West, Grant had been refining his art of war at places like Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Vicksburg, and Chattanooga, and in early 1864, Lincoln made him general-in-chief. Arriving in the East almost deus ex machina, and immediately recognizing what his predecessors never could, Grant pressed Lee in a nearly continuous battle for the next eleven months - a series of battles and sieges that ended at Appomattox.

Bruce L. Brager was born in 1949 in Chester, Pennsylvania, United States.
Bruce Brager studied at the George Washington University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Bruce Brager has been a researcher and writer during his whole career. His works focus on issues in military history, government, and defense. His books cover a variety of time periods and historical events, including the United States Civil War, World War I and II, and the Holocaust. He also worked on modern political and technical topics, such as the energy industry, the United States defense industry, foreign and domestic government, and political science.
In The Texas 36th Division: A History, Brager explores the formation and history of this noted military unit. The 36th Division was formed in 1917 shortly after the United States became involved in World War I. Brager's detailed history covers the division's early years, World War I service, status as a Texas National Guard unit between the wars, and the division's combat service in Italy and France during World War II.
Brager takes up volatile post-World War II issues in The Trial of Adolf Eichmann: The Holocaust on Trial. Eichmann was a senior Nazi official responsible for, among other things, the development of the railway system that carried Jews and others to the concentration camps. Eichmann eluded capture after World War II, but in the late 1950s, reports began to surface that he was seen in Argentina. Brager's book provides an in-depth account of the search, Eichmann's eventual capture, his return to Israel in 1961, and his subsequent trial for war crimes.
Brager's other books include Petersburg, The Monitor vs. the Merrimack, The Iron Curtain: The Cold War in Europe, the most recent Grant's Victory: How Ulysses S. Grant Won the Civil War, and others.
In addition to his books and articles, Brager researched and wrote scripts and served as an editor for an interactive CD-ROM on the American Civil War. He wrote and edited multimedia training materials on issues in the hydrocarbon industry, including production, industrial design, management, and safety, researched low-intensity warfare for United States Army contingency planning studies, and prepared technical manuals and guides on energy production, urban development, and recycling. He also created, edited, and published a newspaper on Southern Africa.
