Cheng Tan was Senator of the Provisional Parliament in 1912, member of the Lower House of Parliament in 1913, member of the Standing Committee of the Nationalist Government, Nankin in 1927, Vice-President of the Legislative Yuan and concurrently Acting President of the Yuan in 1932 , Vice-President of the Judicial Yuan and concurrently Chairman of the Commission for the Discipline of Public Functionaries, National Government, Nanking since November 1982. He was also member of the Central Executive Committee of Kuomintang since 1926.
