Chu Chi-chin received the honorary doctor's degree conferred upon President Hsu by the University of Paris in 1921.
In 1907 Mr. Chu served as a director-general of Mongolian affairs and adviser to the Viceroy of Manchuria. He won confidence of Yuan Shih-kai and was appointed Minister of Communications in 1912. Also he was appointed acting Prime Minister, but did not assume the post in 1913.
During the years 1914 to 1916 Chu Chi-chin held the post of a Minister of Interior and played leading part in Yuan Shih-kai's monarchical movement and was ordered arrested after Yuan's death. Mr. Chu pardoned by a presidential mandate in 1918. He was a chief delegate of the Peking (Beijing) Government to the internal peace conference at Shanghai in 1919. Since 1921 Mr. Chu took up the position of a president of the Chung Hsing Mining Company at Tianjin (Tientsin).
