Chou Ota

Background

Chou Ota was born in 1896 in Miyagi, Japan.

Career

He went to Tokyo (1909) and was initiated into painting of the traditional Japanese school by Seison Maeda at the Tokyo Arts University. He became famous for his Jodohen which he entered in the seventh exhibition of the Japan Fine Arts Institute (1930). The picture was awarded a prize.
