In 1982, Chris received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia. In 1985, he attained a Master of Arts degree from Stanford University. Then, Bongie continued his education at Stanford, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1988.
Throughout his career, Chris served as an associate professor of English and director of Literary and Cultural Studies program at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Also, he taught at Harvard University and University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
Since 2002, Bongie has been holding a post of a Professor of English at Queen's University.
