Christopher Ames

Background

Christopher Ames was born on November 21, 1956, in Teaneck, New Jersey, United States; the son of Karl Ames, a professor of English, and Roberta Ruth (Lennertson) Ames.

Education

Ames graduated from the University of Texas with Bachelor of Arts degree with special honors in 1977. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Stanford University in 1984.

Career

Ames began to work at Stanford University as a teaching administrator in 1983, staying at that position for a year. He also served as a lecturer in English there. From 1984 to 1986, Ames held a position of an instructor in English and department head at Thacher School in Ojai, California. He then moved to Agnes Scott College, taking a post of an associate professor of English and department head from 1986 to 1992. Additionally, Ames was a guest lecturer at Georgia State University in 1993, as well as at the University of Southern California a year later.

Ames published a book The Life of the Party: Festive Vision in Modern Fiction in 1991. He also wrote a book titled Movies about the Movies: Hollywood Reflected in 1997. Ames is a contributor of articles and reviews to journals, including Twentieth Century Literature, Studies in the Literary Imagination, Contemporary Literature, Critique: Studies in Contemporary Fiction, War, Literature and the Arts, and Journal of Popular Film and Television.

Achievements

• Ames's book The Life of the Party was cited as the Outstanding Academic Book in 1991, by the magazine Choise.
