Cindy Blobaum was born on June 8, 1966, in Galesburg, Illinois, United States. She is the daughter of Gary Sickbert (an engineer) and Janet Sickbert (a medical technologist).
Cindy received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Eastern Illinois University in 1987. Ten years later, in 1998 she became a Master of Arts, graduating from the University of Oklahoma.
Cindy Blobaum worked and traveled around the United States and Australia before settling down in Iowa. Her jobs have included positions as a seasonal zookeeper, quality control technician at a potato chip factory, carnival barker, waitress, and ice skating guard. Her first place of work was a Pottawattamie County Conservation Board on the position of naturalist in 1992. In 1995, Cindy changed job and went to Riverview Nature Island in Des Moines also as naturalist and projector coordinator till 1999.
As of the year 2000 and to this day Cindy Blobaum works at Fontenelle Foreston a position of manager of the nature center and project coordinator.
Cindy's success in writing came when she first published Geology Rocks!: 50 Hands-On Activities to Explore the Earth in 2004, and then after publishing Insectigations: 40 Hands-on Activities to Explore the Insect World. Her name was put in articles The New York Times as an author of most selling science literature for children in 2005.

2004Cindy Blobaum is a member of National Association for Interpretation, National Science Teachers Association, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and Iowa Association of Naturalists.
Cindy Blobaum once commented: “My primary goal in writing is to help young people explore, explain, understand, and enjoy science, especially the natural world. Having spent seventeen years actively designing and delivering informal education programs across the country, I am distilling what I learned and developed to share with a larger audience.”
On April 1, 1995, Cindy has married Philip Blobaum, a videographer. They have one son and one daughter.
