Colette was a researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research and a lecturer on feminist social theory at the University of Paris VII (Paris Diderot University), Paris. She was also a member of editorial board at Questions Feministes, until 1980, and Le Genre Humain.
Colette Guillaumin is one France’s most significant writers on the issues of gender and race. Guillaumin’s works of materialist-feminist philosophy have recently been included in numerous English-language anthologies. Guillaumin has been involved in an editorial capacity in two of France’s leading feminist journals: "Le Genre Humain" and the now defunct "Questions Feministes".
She was a member of the International Association for the Study of Racism (The Netherlands), Association Nationale des Etudes Feministes.
