Daniel Hays was born on January 22, 1960 in New York, United States. Son of David Hays and Leonora (Landau) Hays.

Education

Daniel graduated from Connecticut College with a B.A., and received his M.S. from Antioch College.

Career

Hays was a wilderness guide and therapeutic supervisor from 1990 until 1995. He worked then as a teacher at Silver Creek Alternative School, Hailey, Idaho since 1996.

Achievements

• Hays and his father undertook a 17,000 mile, 317-day ocean voyage that passed around Cape Horn on the 25-foot sailboat Sparrow in 1985. They became the first Americans to do so in such a small vessel. Their voyage resulted in Hays' book "My Old Man and the Sea: A Father and Son Sail around Cape Horn".
