Sultan, Daniel Isom was born on December 9, 1885 in Oxford, Mississippi, United States. Son of Daniel Isom and Emma Linda (Wohlleben) Sultan.


Student of University of Mississippi, 1901-1903. Bachelor of Science, United States Military Academy, 1907. Graduated from Army Engineering School, 1909, Command and General staff schedul, 1923, Army War College, 1926.


Commissioned Second lieutenant, June 14, 1907. Advanced through grades to brigadier general, December, 1938. Instructor civil and military engineering, United States Military Academy, 1912-1916.

Commander Engineer troops and engaged in construction of roads and fortifications in P.I., 1916-1917. Colonel General Staff, World War. District engineer, Savannah, Georgia, 1923-1925.

Member Board Engineers for Rivers and Harbors, 1926-1929. In command of the United States Army troops in Nicaragua and member Interoceanic Canal Board, 1929-1931. District engineer, Chicago, 1932-1934.

Engineer commissioner, District of Columbia, 1934-1938. Commanding 2d Engineer Regiment, Fort Logan, Colorado, 1938. Commanding general 22d Infantry Brigade, Schofield Barracks, T.H., 1939-1941.
