David Blatner was born on February 13, 1966, in Palo Alto, Santa Clara County, California, United States. He is the son of Adam Blatner and Barbara Blatner-Fikes. His step-father is Richard Fikes.
David Blatner attended Palo Alto High School. In 1988 he graduated from the Pomona College with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
David Blatner, a computer graphics consultant, is also the author of books about computer desktop publishing and graphics programs. In particular, he has produced books about the Quark desktop publishing package and the Photoshop graphics editing package. He has also written a well-received general guide to desktop publishing, "The Desktop Publisher's Survival Kit", first published in 1991.
Blatner has also penned an entertaining guide to pi-one of the most flamboyant numbers in all of mathematics. Blatner called upon his computer graphics skills in designing the book, "The Joy of Pi", using creative layout and, in some places, day glow colors. A review in Publishers Weekly pointed out that The Joy of Pi "is a book ideally suited to being left lying about, so that science buffs and aficionados of fine typography can peruse it at leisure."
David Blatner is the author or co-author of 15 books, including "Real World InDesign", "Real World Photoshop", and "Spectrums: Our Mind-Boggling Universe from Infinitesimal to Infinity", etc. He has spoken at conferences and workshops around North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Africa. Blatner lives outside Seattle, Washington, with his wife and children.
David Blatner is the author of 15 books, translated into 14 languages with over a half-million copies in print. He is also a co-founder of "InDesign Magazine" and co-publisher of CreativePro.com.
As an expert on digital publishing, he has lectured in five continents over the past two decades. He speaks at conferences and seminars around North America and Japan, including Seybold, Macworld, The Photoshop Conference, and The QuarkXPress Conference.
