Lippincott received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949 from Yale University.
David Lippincott served in the U.S. Army Intelligence, then began his career as a copywriter with McCann-Erickson, a New York-based advertising firm, in 1950. He was promoted up the ranks until he attained the position of senior vice president in 1963. He served as executive director of McCann-Erickson’s English branch, in 1965-1966, returning to the main branch, in 1969-1970. David was also vice-chairman of the board of directors for Erwin-Wasey, Ruthrauf & Ryan, a Los Angeles-based advertising firm, in 1967-1968, and was managing director of the Center for Advanced Practices, Interpublic Group of Companies, from 1963-1966. Lippincott worked as a novelist, composer-lyricist, and television writer from 1950 on. His first book was E Plurihus Bang!, followed by Voice of Armageddon, Tremor Violet, Blood of October, Savage Ransom, Salt Mine, Dark Prism, Unholy Mourning, and his last book, The Nursery. He was also the author of television plays for the Columbia Broadcasting System, and composed music for an album and Broadway and off-Broadway productions.
