Denis Roche makes her SP debut as both author and artist with her bright, funny story about a teacherless classroom of children who find themselves a wonderful and inventive new teacher. It's class picture day, and Class 202 is in an uproar.
Denis Roche is an American author and illustrator of children's books. She wrote Brave Georgie Goat: Three Little Stories About Growing Up and illustrated Can You Count Ten Toes?: Counting to 10 in 10 Different Languages.
Background
Denis Mary Roche was born on January 5, 1967 in New Haven, Connecticut, United States, into the family of Kevin and Jane Roche. The daughter of an architect father and an artist mother, Roche was surrounded by tools of arts and crafts from an early age. Growing up in a household without television encouraged her to use her imagination, fostering her love of reading and creative endeavors.
Education
Denis Roche studied at the University of St Andrews, where she received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in art history.
Roche became an elementary school art teacher, and out of that experience arose her career as an author and illustrator of books for children. With Loo-Loo, Boo, and Art You Can Do, targeted to primary graders, she offers eleven different art projects that young people can put together on their own, with a minimum of adult supervision. Narrated by the fictional TV star Loo-Loo and her dog Boo, the books are written in such a way as to speak to their readers directly.
Ollie, the star of her next book Ollie All Over and Only One Ollie, is a puppy, but he might as well be a human toddler. In the latter story, Ollie cannot find anyone who will play with him, so he entertains himself by counting. The concepts Roche tackles in Brave Georgie Goat: Three Little Stories about Growing Up are not as easy as those presented in the Ollie books. A set of three stories united by the character of Georgie Goat (literally, a little kid), these tales help young readers confront deep and often unexpressed fears.
Achievements
Denis Roche is highly famous as the author of books Loo-Loo, Boo, and Art You Can Do, Brave Georgie Goat: Three Little Stories about Growing Up, and Art Around the World.
