Douglas Prince studied at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1965 and a Master of Fine Arts in 1968.
From 1968 to 1976 Douglas Prince was an assistant professor of photography at the University of Florida, Gainesville, and since 1976 has been an assistant professor at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence.
Douglas Prince works with sheets of positive transparent film sandwiched in plexiglass to create a three-dimensional photo sculpture. He also works in silver prints. Douglas Prince's work has appeared in numerous exhibitions and is held in many private and museum collections, including The Museum of Modern Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Currier Museum of Art and the National Gallery, Canberra, Australia.
