Dwight Currie was born on the 15th of March, 1953 in Storm Lake, Iowa, United States, the son of Wilbur and Evelyn Currie.
Dwight Currie attended Iowa State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
At the beginning of his career, Dwight Currie taught high school English in Iowa for three years. He began a corporate advertising career before launching his own arts and entertainment management and marketing firm in Fairfield County, Connecticut, in 1982, serving Connecticut Grand Opera, Stamford Chamber Orchestra, New Haven Ballet, Hartman Theater Company, American Ballet School, New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players and many others.
In 1987, Dwight moved to Vermont to open an independent bookstore, and there he launched a number of prestigious literary events. The performance-arts addict made his way in 2004 to the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota via its marketing department. In 2005 he was named Curator of Theater Programming for Ringling, and in 2008 he assumed responsibilities as Associate Director for Museum Programs and also became Director for the Ringling International Arts Festival.
Dwight Currie’s first book, How We Behave at the Feast: Reflections on an Age of Plenty, was published in 2000 by Cliff Street Books. In 2001, it was published as An Invitation to the Feast: Celebrating Life in an Age Plenty. His most recent work, The Historic Asolo Theater: The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Art Spaces Series was written in 2011.
