Dwight Edward Aultman, American army officer. Decorated Distinguished Service Medal; Commander Legion of Honor, Croix de Guerre (France).


Aultman, Dwight Edward was born on February 2, 1872 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Matthias W. and Mary (Beach) Aultman.


Graduated from the United States Military Academy, 1894.


Second lieutenant 4th Cavalry, June 12, 1894. Promoted through grades to colonel, May 15, 1917. Brigadier general N.A., April 18, 1918.

Brigadier general United States of America, April 27, 1921. Participated in Battle of San Juan Hill, July 1-3, 1898, and siege of Santiago, Cuba. Aide-de-camp to General Wheaton in Cuba, December 1898-January 1899, later aide-de-camp to General Keifer.

Organized, and commanded Cuban Artillery, 1901-1902. Instructor same, 1903-1906. On staff commanding general Army of Cuban Pacification, 1906-1907.

Instructor department of langs., Service Schools, 1907-1911. Special mission to Germany, 1914-1915. Graduated from Army War College, 1916.

Instructor same, 1916-1917. Commander 5th Field Artillery, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Force, October 1917-May 1918. Commander 51st Brigade Field Artillery, 26th Division, 1st A.C., American Expeditionary Force, May 8-August 15, 1918.

Appointed chief of Artillery, 5th Corps, October 1918, and of 2d Army, December 1918. Participated in battles, Champagne-Marne, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne. Graduate General Staff College, 1920.
