Mr. Newman began work in Chicago at the age of twenty. He was employed for a number of years in the office of Adler & Sullivan, well-known firm in the city, and at one time assisted in preparation of plans for the Chicago Auditorium. In the early 1890's he served the Chinese Government in supervising the erection of their buildings at the World’s Columbian Exposition which opened in Chicago in 1893. Later Mr. Newman practiced under his own name, designing a number of store buildings (one of them for the Foster Shoe Company), several schools and also private homes.
He was elected to the Illinois Society of Architects in 1890, and during 1905 served as President of the Society.
