Studied at Doctor Wand’s School, Liverpool. At age of 15 began contributing to the Illustrated London News and Illustrated Times.
Afterwards joined the Graphic as Artist Correspondent, and sketched many passing events. Resided chiefly in North Wales, 1875-1890. Was Vice-President and one of the Founders of the Royal Cambrian Academy.
Organised the first Technical Art Classes, and received an Exceptional Recognition from the Science and Art Departments. Went to Siam to direct the Royal School of Arts and to give Art Instruction in the Raj. Kumara College, 1892.
Painted two pictures for the King of Siam of the Crown Prince’s coming-of-age ceremonies. Was Special Artist to the Graphic and Daily Graphic during the Franco-Siamese War of 1893. Returned to London, 1896.
Has exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute, etc., and chief American Galleries. R.C.A.; Director of the Norbury Sketching School and St. James’ Life School; Principal of The Henry Blackburn Studio; Painter and Illustrator.
