In 1984 Elaine received Bachelor of Fine Arts at Atlanta College of Art. In 1986 she attended Georgia State University. Then she earned Master of Fine Arts at School of Visual Arts in 1996.
In 1980 Elaine worked as a head start teacher in Cesar Chavez Migrant Camp, and gallery instructor in High Museum of Art. In 1983 she held the position of art instructor in St. Anthony’s Summer Camp, and a gallery manager of Woodruff Memorial Arts Center Gallery in 1984.
In 1985 - 1989 she worked as an assistant teacher and artist-in-residence in Paideia School, artist-in-residence in Mary Lin Elementary School, and an elementary teacher in Atrium School. Elaine was also a volunteer with Glen Mary Missionary. She has presented artwork at exhibitions, including Woodruff Memorial Arts Center in 1984; The Visual Club in 1995; Art Directors Club in 1996; and The New York Women’s Foundation in, 1996.
On September 14, 1996, Elaine married a publisher Simon Boughton.
