He was a graduate of Heidelberg University.
Mr. Schacht migrated to the U. S. in 1883. In Portland where he subsequently established residence, he practiced architecture forty years, first under his own name, then in association with his son, opened an office at S. W. Sixth Avenue and Burnside, a building long since razed.
Schacht & Son were architects of several early buildings in Portland, including the Meaghley-Tichnor Building at Sixth Avenue and Adler, and the Lowensen Building on site of the present Densmore Hotel. In addition the firm designed and supervised work on the new Police Headquarters Building and the Elks Temple in Portland.
