Education
After graduating from Tokyo University (1885) En Kanai proceeded to Germany for further studies (1886).
Career
In 1890 was appointed professor at Tokyo University and concurrently adviser to the Ministry of Finance. En Kanai helped found the Shakai Seisaku Gakkai (Institute of Social Policy) and establish the Economic Faculty at his alma mater, of which he later became the Dean. He was a director of the Japan Hypothec Bank.
