Eric S. Zolov was born on June 29, 1965 in Bronxville, New York, United States; the son of David Zolov, an allergist, and Susan (Levinson) Zolov, a Spanish teacher.
Eric S. Zolov received a Bachelor of Arts from Colby College in 1987. He also holds a Master of Arts in Latin American studies and international relations, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Chicago.
Eric Zolov began his career in 1993 at the Universidad de las Américas as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of International Relations. In 1995 he was appointed as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Bentley College. For six months Zolov worked at the University of California at Davis and the University of Puget Sound. He was a Visiting Assistant Professor in Latin American History at Georgetown University. From 1998 Eric worked as an Assistant Professor of Latin American History at Franklin & Marshall College, becoming an Associate Professor of Latin American History. He also served at New York University and Pontificia Universidad Católica. Currently, Eric is an Associate Professor of Latin American History at Stony Brook University.
Zolov's research and teaching interests focus on the interplay between culture, politics, and international relations in twentieth-century Latin America, with a particular emphasis on the Cold War period.
Eric’s publications include Refried Elvis: The Rise of the Mexican Counterculture, Rockin Las Americas: The Global Politics Of Rock In Latin/o America and Fragments of a Golden Age: The Politics of Culture in Mexico Since 1940. His latest work is Iconic Mexico: An Encyclopedia from Acapulco to Zócalo, which was published in 2015.
