Ernest Felsbergs graduated from the Riga Alexander Gymnasium (1897), St. George's University (1901), underwent a 2-year internship at Saint Petersburg University.
Ernest Felsbergs worked as a home teacher, taught Greek and Latin at the Gymnasium (Yuriev, now Tartu, Estonia). He was a privat-docent (1905), professor (1910), director of the Museum of Fine Arts (since 1910) of the Yuryev University (now the University of Tartu).
Ernest Felsbergs taught classical art, mythology in art, and the history of ancient Greece and Rome. He was a professor of history and theory of art, director of the Museum of the Voronezh State University.
At the same time, Ernest Felsbergs lectured at the local conservatory and headed the art department of the provincial museum. He was the first rector of the University of Latvia (1922-1923).
Ernest Felsbergs had a daughter.
