Le Sueur studied under the painter Simon Vouet and was admitted at an early age into the guild of master painters.
In 1645, Eustache began his first major work, namely the series "Life of St. Bruno", which was commissioned for the decoration of the cloister of the Carthusian monastery. It took him three years to finish the work.
In 1648, the artist was one of the founding members and first professors of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. At the same time, Le Sueur also created works for the wealthy Parisian clientele, decorating several mansions of the capital. Also, being a highly appreciated artist, he was chosen to decorate the Hôtel Lambert, situated on the Île Saint-Louis. Moreover, Eustache took part in the renovation of the Louvre Palace.
During his lifetime, the painter also worked on religious orders — in 1654, for example, he created four paintings for Marmoutier Abbey, Tours.
Eustache Le Sueur was a prominent French artist, who became known as a founding member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. The series "Life of St. Bruno" is one of his most famous works.
The artist's works are kept in the collections of different museums, galleries and art institutions, including Art Institute of Chicago, Louvre Museum in Paris, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and others.
