When he entered the 2nd Moscow Medical Institute in 1949, he became interested in physiology, attended the NSC of the Department of Physiology on the topic "Trophic Nerve of the Heart" at the second and third courses, at the 4th-5th courses - the NSC headed by Academician A.N. Bakulev Department of Faculty Surgery, where under the leadership of Elena Alimovna Damir developed the theme "Echinococcus liver and its complications."
The last 6th course spent as the subordinate at the Department of Hospital Surgery. In 1955 E.B. Mazo received a distribution to the polyclinic № 10 of the Shcherbakovsky district. At the same time, he was admitted to the surgical clinic (department) of the Basmanna hospital of the military faculty where he had been assisting and operating patients for two years under the guidance of remarkable surgeons. At this time EB. Mazo writes his first scientific paper "Prevention of suppurations of an operating wound in patients with acute purulent appendicitis", which was published in the journal “Military-Field Surgery”. Soon he was transferred by a surgeon to the office of purulent lesions. At the same time, he graduates courses in traumatology in a department headed by Professor A.V. Kaplan, attends the seminars of Professor L. Dunaevsky in the urological department.
Leaving the work of external studies, Mazo becomes a surgeon in hospital № 53 (headed by Professor V. Odenov). In 1958, E.B. Mazo entered the clinical residency in urology on the base of City Clinical Hospital № 1 named after N.I. Pirogov, after which in 1960 he was left to work as a city resident-urologist. In 1963 he defended his thesis "Intubation narcosis in urology" (academic adviser A.Ya. Pytel). In 1965-1966, E.B. Mazo works as a urologist at the hospital of Khmer-Soviet friendship (Cambodia), performs about 200 operations, and is published in a local medical journal. From 1966 to the present, Evsei Borisovich works at the Russian State Medical University, having traveled from a senior researcher, assistant, assistant professor to professor, and finally, head of the Department of Urology and Operative Nephrology (since 1993). In 1973, he defended his doctoral dissertation on "Diagnosis of renovascular hypertension and the choice of the method of its treatment."

Evsei Borisovich is a member of the presidium and an Honorary member of the Russian Urological Society, a full member of the European Association of Urology, a corresponding member of the American Association of Urologists, a visiting professor at the Medical University in Seattle (USA), a member of the editorial board and a permanent scientific editor of Urology Magazine (for 18 years), deputy editor-in-chief of the journal "Sexology and Sexopathology".
