His early years he spent in Arkhangelsk, studying at a parochial school. In 1933 Firs Efimovich graduated from the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts.
During his studies, Firs Efimovich worked as a director of the Theatre of Classical Miniature (1928) and the Workers' Youth Theatre (1929-1933) in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg). In 1933-1945 he was the artistic director of the Ussuri, Spassky and Vladivostok theaters. He occupied the position of chief director of the Stavropol (1945-1947) and Stalingrad (now Volgograd) (1950-1956) theaters.
In the years 1947-1950 Firs Efimovich worked as the director of the Moscow State Drama and Comedy Theater. In 1956-1960 he was the chief director of the Voronezh Drama Theater and in 1957-1960 artistic director of the theater studio. In 1960-1978 Firs Efimovich was the chief director and artistic director of the Volkov theater in Yaroslavl. Since 1962 he taught at the Yaroslavl theater school.
Firs Efimovich died in May, 1985 in Yaroslavl', Russian Federation.
Firs Efimovich during his whole life had a passion for the theater and everything connected with it: he loved actors, forgave them a lot, respected workers of workshops, liked to rehearse. Creating a new performance was a holiday for him.
