Practiced law in Honolulu, 1878-1904. Vice president Provisional Government of Hawaii, February 1893-July 1894. Minister of foreign affairs.

Republic of Hawaii. July 1894-October 1895. Envoy Extraordinary anu Minister Plenipotentiary, Hawaii to Washington, December 1895-July 1898. One of signers of the Hawaiian treaty of annexation.

Appointed justice Supreme Court, Ty. of Hawaii, 1904. Resigned account ill health, January 31, 1905. Home: Honolulu, T.H.
