DIVISIA, François was born in 1889 in Tizi-Ouzou, Algeria.
Originally trained as an engineer, his part-time economic work was recognised by his appointment to a teaching post with the Ministry of National Education. His first major publication, L’indice.. contained the monetary index known as the Divisia index. Economique Rationelle made his reputation with its concise and practical statement of his views.
He was moved by what he saw as lack of precision in Keynes’s General Theory to offer a microeconomic alternative in the form of Traitement économétrique. His work was a major contribution to the development of econometrics. Government Engineer, 1919.
