Mr. Allen was educated at Grand Rapids.
He maintained an architectural office there for a few years. In the early part of the century he moved to Seattle, and after designing a number of hotels and other buildings, was appointed Architect and Director of Works of the Alaska-Yukon Pacific Exposition which opened in the city in 1909. A few years later he was chosen Director of the Works of the San Diego Exposition of 1915 and 1916, and about that time established an office for independent practice in the First National Bank Building. At the Exposition Mr. Allen served as Engineer on the construction of the Balboa Bridge, and was associated with Carleton Monroe Winsiow on the structural work of several of the buildings, notably the Canadian Building and its grounds, and the Botanical and Administration Buildings. He wasalso connected with the erection of some of the buildings at the Exposition held on the Fair grounds during 1935 and 1936, and after its close, established an office in the Architects Building in Los Angeles. During the second World War he was employed with the California Ship Building Company at Long Beach, and met his death in an accident which occurred in the company yards.
