Fred Picker attended the University of Vermont in Burlington.
In the 1980s Fred Picker was president of Zone VI Studios, Inc., which designs and manufactures specialized photo equipment, and director of Zone VI Workshops. He also published the Zone VI Newsletter. He was on their advisory council in 1976. In 1979 Fred Picker was also an adviser to Polaroid Corporation and a panelist on the Vermont Council on the Arts.
Working in a large format, Fred Picker emphasized natural subjects, landscapes, and portraits. He was concerned with producing fine silver prints.
