Career
He was a retainer of the Mito Clan and the son of Yukoku Fujita. After the death of his father, he took charge of compilation of historical documents at the Shokokan (History Compiling Institute) of the Mito Clan, and later became its director. He promoted the Mito spirit which was characteristic of the clan. (The Mito Clan attached importance to Confucian learning and military arts). Although he revered the Imperial family, he is said to have still persisted in the belief that the Shogunate system should be retained. He was killed when his lord's residence in Yedo collapsed in an earthquake. He wrote many books on the history compilation and other cultural works of his clan.
