Studied at 3rd Moscow Cadet School, Nikolayev Engineer College and Nikolaycv Engineer Academy.
1901-1917 instructor, Nikolayev Engineer Academy. Specialized in field and permanent fortifications (especially armored installations). Was first Soviet commandant, Military Engineer Academy.
During the Civil War helped fortify Petrograd and the Kronstadt fortress. Simultaneously taught fortification theory at Military Engineer Academy.
