Galina Yakovlevna Sysoeva (nee Tkacheva) was born on January 1, 1952, in Boguchar, Voronezh, Russian Federation.
From the age of eight, Galina Yakovlevna studied the accordion play at a music school, and from the age of fourteen (until the age of twenty-two), she worked as a music director in pioneer camps every summer.
She graduated from the Conductor and Choral Department of Voronezh Music School in 1973. Galina Yakovlevna was at Professor Oleg Shepel’s class at Voronezh State Institute of Arts and graduated in 1978.
Galina Yakovlevna was the chief choirmaster of Voronezh State Academic Russian Folk Choir named after K.I. Massalitinov between 1979 and 1980, artistic director of the "Lada" ensemble between 1985 and 1992, and the "Volya" folk ensemble of Voronezh State Academy of Arts since 1989.
Since 1991, Galina Yakovlevna was a lecturer, senior lecturer, Associate Professor, Professor, Head (since 1999) of the Department of Musical Folklore (since 2004 – of Ethnomusicology), vice-rector (since 2004) of Voronezh State Academy of Arts.
The organizer of musical and folklore expeditions to the regions of Central Chernozem region (since 1988), annual folklore festivals in Voronezh "On Kazanskaya Day", since 1992; "Freckles", since 1997), the village of Novaya Usman ("On Trinity Sunday", since 1998).
Together with her sisters V.Y. Gorbacheva and Z.Y. Tkacheva, Galina Yakovlevna created the private Museum of Traditional Russian Costume and Dolls in Boguchar (1993). She is the author of about 40 research papers. She has published several CDs with recordings of traditional songs performed by the "Volya" ensemble.
Galina Yakovlevna is the author and developer of educational programs on the theory of musical folklore, folk performing traditions, history, and theory of Russian sacred music. Scientific projects led By Galina Yakovlevna, fundamental and applied, have been repeatedly supported by the Russian scientific humanitarian foundation and the Federal program "Culture".
Galina Yakovlevna is a person devoted to her work. Throughout her life, she made her best to revive and develop folklore in Russia, to give it new shape maintaining its core characteristics.
Galina Yakovlevna is married, has a daughter.
