Career
Gensei Sugawara served Lord Naotaka Ii of Hikone (Shiga Prefecture). He resigned at the age of 25 and became a Buddhist priest (1648).
He lived in the Shoshin-an Hermitage at Fukakusa Village south of Kyoto. He also called the hermitage Sozan-Zuikoji.The collection of his poems is called Sozan Wakashu.
