He was Lieutenant General of the Left Guard. By order of Emperor Gokogon he was compiling an anthology Shin Jui-wakashu but died before completing it. A confidant of Emperor Godaigo, he joined in the emperor’s plot to overthrow the Kamakura Shogunate. After the restoration of the Imperial regime of the South Dynasty in 1334, he joined the North Dynasty.
