He was appointed Gon Chunagon (secretary to Vice-Minister) and succeeded Tameto in the task of compiling the Shin GoOui-Uctkashu Anthology. He was killed when attacked by a ruffian in 1385. Since his time the Nijo family which enjoyed public esteem as the head family of waka poetry since the Kamakura Perioa began to decline.
