Geoffrey Peterson was born on November 21, 1946, in Erie, Pennsylvania, United States; the son of Ward Peterson, a professor of foreign languages.
Geoffrey Peterson received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Eastern Washington University. He also studied at Dramatic Workshop in New York.
Geoffrey Peterson began his career at Eastern Washington University as an instructor in English. In 1980 he became an instructor in English and director of speech and drama at Orme School. In a year Peterson was appointed as an instructor in English and director of speech and drama at North State Academy where he stayed for two years. He served for eight years as an instructor in English of Western Wyoming College. Geoffrey also was a security officer at a television station at American Protective Services, teacher of English as a second language at San Francisco Institute of English, San Francisco, and instructor in humanities at Western Wyoming Community College.
Peterson's first book Cordes Junction was published in 1988, followed by Medicine Dog, Hecho en Mexico and Bad Trades.
