Curzon began his career as a research assistant at the Institute of Orthopaedics of the University of London in 1951. Two years later he was appointed a professor of the Department of Chemical Pathology at National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. In 1968, Gerald was promoted to reader of Miriam Marks Department of Neurochemistry at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. Then in 1975, he became a professor of neurochemistry at the same institute. Since 1993 Curzon has been a professor emeritus at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology.
Curzon is a member of Biochemical Society, British Pharmaceutical Society, International Society of Neurochemistry and British Association of Psychopharmacology.
